At Circolo Popolare, restraint gives way to abundance. Flowers and greenery cascade overhead, colourful bottles fill illuminated shelves, and wooden tables stretch through a room designed to evoke the pleasure of dining outdoors in Sicily. The setting is exuberant, layered and deliberately theatrical — a Mediterranean escape imagined in the heart of Fitzrovia.
Opened in June 2019, the restaurant’s design unfolds across an expansive space, yet its booths, planting and warm lighting create smaller pockets within the spectacle. There is detail in every direction: woven lamps, patterned surfaces and shelves that turn an everyday object into decoration. It is a room built to be explored with the eye as much as occupied.
Part of the Big Mamma group, Circolo Popolare places Italian produce at the centre of its culinary identity. The restaurant highlights burrata sourced from Puglia and DOP San Marzano tomatoes, alongside handmade pasta and Neapolitan pizza. Its approach combines recognisable Italian favourites with presentation that matches the room’s appetite for drama.
Carbonara served from a Pecorino wheel captures that spirit particularly clearly: a familiar dish becomes a centrepiece. Antipasti designed for sharing, pizzas and indulgent desserts extend the invitation to order together, compare plates and make an occasion of the meal.
